    Who we are

    Continental’s first AI Living Lab, established in 2023 in Romania, represents a pioneering initiative within our global network. This innovative lab is dedicated to accelerating the integration of artificial intelligence into daily operations, enhancing productivity, collaboration, and innovation across departments. By piloting living lab methodologies in a co-creation environment, we engage over 10,000 employees in R&D, central functions, and operations. The AI Living Lab serves as a scalable model for future AI integrations within Continental, supporting the growth of a global AI Living Labs network.  

    What we do

    The AI Living Lab is empowering local internal automotive communities through technology, reducing adoption time by piloting and preparing the roll-out of AI solutions in a collaborative user-centric manner. By channeling customer feedback to the AI developers for continuous improvement, we measure both the operational impact and employee engagement with AI solutions. Direct engagement builds trust in the technology and ensures it is designed to be trustworthy for future users. The AI Living Lab is embedded within both Continental’s ecosystem and the local community, leveraging their diverse potential.

    Key Results

    In its first year, the AI Living Lab analyzed numerous use cases where AI could benefit the company, conducting feasibility studies and proof-of-concept projects. This led to the development of new internal solutions with high scaling potential across business areas. The following solutions are only two great examples:    

    This solution enhances product quality by detecting potential unforeseen issues in large time-series data.  

    Utilizing large language models, this solution understands customer requests and automatically routes them to the appropriate team, reducing lead time for resolutions and increasing customer satisfaction.  

    Additionally, the AI Living Lab has been instrumental in several other areas, such as:  

    Upskilling employees by offering a range of experimentations and learning sessions to enhance their understanding and engagement with AI technologies, through internal programs.    

    Connecting with the external ecosystem through program-level presentations at important regional events, such as AI for Humanity.  

    Understanding employees’ perceptions of AI and the resulting efficiency gains through a comprehensive sociological study conducted withing the AI Living Lab’s target audience.
